Health CS Nakhumicha inaugurates New Social Health Authority Board

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has inaugurated the new Social Health Authority board that will oversee implementation of the 3 funds that replace the National Hospital Insurance Fund

The board consists of Dr Timothy Olweny who is the Chairperson.Other members include PS Harry Kimtai, a representative of the PS Treasury, Acting Health Director General Patrick Amoth, Francis Atwoli,  Zakayo Kariuki, and Jacinta Mutegi.

The six were appointed via a gazette notice dated November 22, 2023.

The appointment came after the cabinet proposed the scrapping of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) after four bills were tabled in parliament.

Board has been tasked with steering health-related policies and initiatives, comprising individuals from various sectors.

Following this, Kenyans will now access quality healthcare in an efficient, affordable and non-discriminatory manner.

The Social Health Insurance Act repeals the current National Health Insurance Fund and establishes three new funds.

The three are Primary Healthcare Fund, the Social Health Insurance Fund, and the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund.
