Governor Kawira Mwangaza pleads not guilty to 7 charges against her

The besieged Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has pleaded not guilty to claims of nepotism, contempt of court and the assembly, gross misconduct, misappropriation and misuse of public resources and illegal appointment and usurpation of statutory powers that have been leveled against her by county MCAs.

“Not guilty,” she responded when the clerk of the senate Jeremiah Nyegenye posed the question to her after reading out the particulars of each of the charges.

The impeachment trial of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has commenced at the Senate, marking the beginning of a two-day proceeding.

A section of the members of the meru county assembly will testify against the governor as she seeks to defend herself for the second time in less than a year over a litany of accusations that led to her unilateral impeachment by 59 out of 69 MCAS

Governor Mwangaza has asked the senate to ascertain the weight of the accusation leveled against her arguing that the claims and evidence presented by her accusers are similar to those that the senate turned down a in her first impeachment attempt

If the impeachment motion is upheld, Mwangaza will be the fourth Governor after Martin Wambora (Embu), Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and Mike Sonko (Nairobi) respectively to be found guilty by the Senate.
