The High Court extends orders blocking Police deployment to Haiti

The High Court has  extended orders temporarily barring  the deployment of police officers to Haiti for a peacekeeping mission.

High court judge Chacha Mwita directed the parties in the case to file their court papers and appear in court for highlighting on November 9th 2023.

The ruling came a day after the United Nations warned that security in Haiti, where violent gangs control large swathes

has collapsed even further, with major crimes hitting “record highs .

Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot sued President William Ruto and his administration in a bid to block the peacekeeping mission that will see the deployment of at least 1,000 police officers to the gang-ridden nation.

Aukot filed the petition claiming that Kenya’s bid to lead a UN-approved force into the Caribbean island nation is in gross violation of the constitution.

He argued that Kenya has not ratified any law or treaty to allow the deployment of police officers outside the country.

Details of  the deployment are still not finalized, with  parliament yet to approve the move as required by law.
