Sabina Chege Loses minority whip position in  Parliament

Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has lost her position as the Deputy Minority Whip in the National Assembly after the high court dismissed a petition challenging Azimio coalition’s  decision to replace her was thrown out.

The Jeremiah Kioni-allied faction of the Jubilee Party, which sponsored Chege’s nomination, said it will insist on the enforcement of the verdict in the House.

Embakasi West MP Mark Muriithi Mwenje is set to be the new Deputy Minority Whip in the 13th Parliament.

Azimio had unsuccessfully tried to replace Chege on May 4, but Wetangula stopped the move ruling that the coalition had not furnished the House with a replacement.

Azimio subsequently nominated the Embakasi West MP but Chege through her lawyer Dennis Kivuti moved to court to object to her ouster.

National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi said the resolution to replace Chege was backed by 130 Azimio members, including party leaders.

Wandayi argued the move aligned with the resolutions made by Azimio’s affiliate party, Jubilee, regarding changes in party leadership.
