Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja On Sunday launched an ambitious plan that will see revenue reach Sh20 billion in the current financial year through the implementation of Nairobi City County Finance Bill, 2023.

The Bill, which will from Monday go through public participation, seeks to increase parking fees, licensing fees and rent among a raft of other charges and levies proposed by City Hall.

These services will only come if we pay taxes,” said Chief Officer Revenue Administration Wilson Gakuya. “That is why we have embarked on a campaign through which we want to understand where to adjust.”

The Nairobi county recorded a Sh250.1 million rise in its internal revenue for the first two months of July and August this financial year.

Data from the county’s finance department shows that City Hall raised Sh1.07 billion in the period under review, reflecting a  rise from Sh823.1 million last Financial Year 2022-2023.
