Kenya Human Rights Commission, Uraia Trust, Elimu Tuitakayo, and other 9 organizations have faulted the new university funding model describing it as a  hurried and premature rollout.

The 12 accuse the education ministry  of transferring the responsibility of providing education to the parents, whom they say are struggling to keep their children in school.

They are also demanding for clarity on selecting universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training courses. According to the right groups eligible students face prolonged university and college placement delays due to a lack of clear instructions from Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services.

“There must be clarity about selecting universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses. Eligible students face prolonged university and college placement delays due to a lack of clear instructions from Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services,” they said..

The rights group says the more students are dropping out or avoiding selecting the courses altogether and further asked the state to review the criteria used to qualify for government support.
