Kenya’s Malkia Strikers are the new African champions after beating Egypt in straight sets in the Women’s African Volleyball Championship in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The Kenyan queens clinched the coveted trophy in straight sets of 3-0.

The home girls beat hosts Cameroon 3-1 in the semis to book the assignment against the Egyptians at a fully packed Palais Polyvalent des Sports arena in the capital Yaounde.

After experienced Sharon Chepchumba, Veronica Adhiambo and captain Mercy Moim led Bitok’s charges against their fierce rivals in a 3-1 hard fought win in their semi-final, the trio capped it with an incredibly impressive shift against hapless Egypt to help Malkia recapture the title they last won in 2015.

The African giants came in Cameroon following a poor spell in the Challenger Cup in Laval, France where they failed to earn a single point and the AFCON triumph would be their only route to the Olympic games slated for next year in Paris, France.

Malkia 10th historical continental title has earned them a qualification in the 2025 Volleyball Women’s World Championship as the African Volleyball Confederation representatives.
