Ministry of Health gives a nod to 100,000 community health promoters

The Ministry of Health will release One hundred thousand Community Health Promoters during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations

Health CS Susan Nakhumicha said the 100,000 health promoters  have already been trained and equipped with the gadgets they will use in their health promotion work at community level.

The theme for this year’s mashujaa day celebrations will be  Universal Health Care and the celebrations will kick off with the UHC week which will run for a week before Mashujaa Day.

The MOH has brought on board relevant stakeholders to ensure adequate and appropriate resources are available to support the Universal Health Care agenda.

“This census sets the foundation for a healthier, more robust healthcare system, in line with our commitment to providing quality healthcare for all.” the CS added.

President William Ruto has in the past emphasized the role of health promoters in the attainment of the government’s Universal Health Care agenda.

Universal health care was one of the agenda of the jubilee government when it took over in 2013 but is yet to be realized even after a pilot program was done in five counties .

The ministry has also faced challenges in the National health insurance fund with cases of corruption that has led to some hospitals declining services to subscribers.
