148 students from Ikonge Girls Secondary School in Nyamira County have been admitted to various hospitals over suspected water or food poisoning.
Nyamira North sub county director for education Clare Oyula said the students started complaining of stomach ache and lower abdominal pain.
“The students have been rushed to Mogumo Health Centre and others to Ekerenyo sub county hospital for medication,” Oyula said.
According to Oyula most of the students are in stable condition and will be discharged.
County Health CEC Timothy Ombati said three students who are in critical condition have been referred to Nyamira County Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.
“We received a distress call from the school and our team responded on time and we are glad that the students have been admitted to our various hospitals and are being attended to by medics,” the CEC said.
