Senate dismisses impeachment of Siaya DG William Oduol

Senators have failed to uphold the impeachment of William Oduol and thus he remains in office  as the Deputy  governor of Siaya County.

The senators voted in two charges of gross misconduct of office and misrepresentation as tabled by the committee probing Oduol.

In both the charges, a majority of the lawmakers opposed the impeachment.

“The net effect of this vote is that the Senate has failed to remove from office by impeachment Hon William Oduol, the Deputy Governor of Siaya and that the DG continues to hold office,” Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said.

Some 27 Kenya Kwanza Senators voted against each of the two charges the DG faced, beating the 16 Azimio senators who had voted to uphold the charges.

Six out of the eleven senators who had retreated to file the report for consideration of the hearing to whole house, upheld the decision to impeach the governor sending the report to the house for debate

Speaking before the floor of the senate, Nandi Senator Cherargei strongly opposed the recommendation of the William Kisang led committee to impeach the deputy governor.

According to the lawmaker, the deputy governor does not sit in the county accounting office.

Makueni Senator Daniel Maazo while proposing the impeachment, said there was enough material evidence tabled by the members of the Siaya County to stamp the  ouster of the deputy governor from  office
