Chairperson of the National Assembly Select Committee on Budget & Appropriations Ndindi Nyoro has criticized the government, for submitting supplementary budget estimates to the House for approval, barely two weeks to the end of the current financial year.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Nyoro noted that given the closeness to the end of the financial year, some of the expenditures might not be realized.
Nyoro was referring to a report tabled in the House, on the 16.3 Billion shillings expenditure incurred in the 2022/23 financial year, without the approval of the MPs.
Of the 16.3 Billion shillings, 5.1 Billion shillings is in recurrent expenditure and 11.3 Billion shillings in development expenditure.
“Without this critical information, the National Assembly may not be in a position to make an informed judgment on the rationality of the said expenditure,” said Ndindi.
