Kenya has signed a bilateral agreement with Jamaica, opening trade opportunities for the country
The Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Alfred Mutua held talks with his Jamaican Kamina Smith where they talked about strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
Mutua said the two countries also agreed to “expand the existing bilateral frameworks” to help open up job opportunities for Kenyans.
“We agreed to expand the existing bilateral frameworks to open up opportunities for Kenyan seafarers in Jamaican cruise ships and Kenyan nurses in the health sector in Jamaica,” he said.
The cooperation is in tea and coffee, the tourism sector, jobs, and financial technology (fintech).
“Markets for Kenyan tea and coffee: Jamaica does not grow tea while they grow minimal amounts of coffee,” Foreign Affair Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua said.
Jamaica and Kenya will also share knowledge terms and best practices between Jamaican Maritime University and Kenya’s Bandari College through scholarships, student and faculty exchanges, joint development of curricula, internships and training.
“This presents an opportunity for these products given Jamaica’s population of close to 3 million people,” he added.
