Lesotho records the highest suicide rate worldwide

Lesotho has been ranked the number one country in the world with highest suicide rate, according to UNAIDS

The country top a global list, with a suicide rate of 87.5 per 100,000 people. 

The survey was done in 183 countries. 

According to the UNAIDS, Lesotho has a high rate of violence that could be attributed to the huge number.

“One in three women and girls in the country were abused by an intimate partner in 2020,” UNAIDS states. 

Guyana came in second with 40.9 percent, followed by Eswatini, who came third with 40.5 percent suicide deaths per 100,000 people. 

Kiribati was ranked position five with 30.6 percent, followed by Micronesia (country) 29.0 percent at sixth position.

Zimbabwe came in at position seven with 23.6 per cent suicide deaths per 100,000 people.

Central African Republic was ranked position ten with 23.0 percent suicide deaths per 100,000 people.

Other countries are Grenada with 0.6 per cent, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with 1.0 per cent, Jordan with 2.0 per cent and Venezuela with 2.1 per cent.  

Syria has a 2. per cent suicide deaths per 100,000 people, Sao Tome and Principe with 2.2 per cent, Jamaica 2.3 per cent and Turkey with 2.3 per cent.
