IG nominee Koome to be vetted on 8th of November

The nominee for Inspector General (IG) of Police Japhet Koome Nchebere will appear before a vetting committee on Tuesday 8th of November for consideration of his suitability for appointment to office.

According to the clerk of the National Assembly Serah Kioko, Koome will be vetted by the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs, and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defense, and Foreign Affairs at Parliament buildings.

He will be required to present original copies of his identity card, academic and professional certificates, and be cleared by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

Kioko also called on Kenyans to submit their views on the suitability of the IG of Police nominee Koome.

She said interested members of the public can submit their presentations ahead of the vetting process.

 “In accordance with section 6 (9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011, the Committees now invites interested members of the public to submit any representations, by written statements on oath (affidavits), with supporting evidence, on the suitability of the nominee for appointment to office,” said Kioko in a notice.

“The presentations may be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly or the Clerk of Senate, P.O. Box 41842-00100, Nairobi; hand delivered to the Offices of the Clerks – Main Parliament Buildings – Nairobi; or emailed to clerk.nationalassembly@parliament.go.ke and clerk.senate@parliament.go.ke.”

Koome was nominated to the position by President William Ruto on 27th of September 2022, after outgoing Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai went on terminal leave over health issues, ahead of the expiration of his term in office.

Koome is the current Commandant of the National Police Service College – Kiganjo.
