Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o says President William Ruto’s Cabinet nominees fell short of regional and ethnic balance.

Taking to twitter Nyong’o noted that the lack of the two in the president’s list of cabinet secretaries failed to promote national unity.

“Having seen appointments to the Cabinet on Tuesday, equity and regional balance, two components of national unity are prominent by their absence,” tweeted Governor Nyong’o.

The County boss also faulted the President for not retaining the Devolution ministry saying the move did not respect separation of powers.

“The Constitution is very clear on this. We have two major branches of government in our Republic: national and devolved governments. Separate but interdependent. The President should have respected this principle in structuring his government,” said Prof Nyong’o.

Outgoing Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa also raised questions over the emission of the CS for devolution.

“Am at a loss as to what happens to Devolution, is it an oversight or it is not a priority to this Administration?” he asked.

The devolution ministry was working independently since 2013, however when President Ruto unveiled his Cabinet he did not include the name of a Cabinet secretary attached to the office.

The Ministry of Devolution is responsible for supporting County Governments through policy formulation, capacity support and intergovernmental relations.

On Tuesday, the president unveiled his new Cabinet and appointed Professor Kithure Kindiki as the CS for Interior and National Administration, Njuguna Ndung’u (National Treasury and Planning) and Aden Duale as the Defence CS, among other nominees.

The Head of State also named Musalia Mudavadi as the Prime Cabinet Secretary saying the position is the most senior office after the president and deputy president.
