The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has suspended the 23rd of August By-Election in Mombasa and Kakamega counties.
In a statement, the commission cites harassment and intimidation of commission’s officials.
The Wafula-Chebukati led comission has called out on the profiling and murder of the Embakasi East constituency returning officer asking the DCI and ODPP to bring the culprits to book.
“This has instilled fear within the staff who are now unable to report to the office for duty. This harassment must stop forthwith,” Chebukati said.
“In view of the prevailing circumstances, the Commission has postponed the by-elections slated for 23rd August 2022, to a date to be announced through a gazette notice,” Chebukati said.
The poll agency has also postponed the by-election to later dates that will be notified through a gazette notice.
The election in Kacheliba, Kitui rural, Pokot South and Rongai Constituencies have also been suspended to later dates.
