Kenya Airports Authority employees have down their tools across all airports effective on Tuesday 16th of August 2022
Kenya Airports Workers Union Secretary General Moss Ndiema said they will go on strike for the next seven days.
He cited the reason for KAA’s failure to conclude and implement the 2016-2019 Central Bargaining Agreement (CBA) as in breach of mutual agreements.
The looming strike, he said, will include security, customer service, firemen, and ground flight safety staff across all KAA airports in the country.
Wildlife and bird controllers, engineers as well as plumbers will also be expected to down their tolls starting next week Tuesday.
The union wanted to be awarded a basic salary increment of 13 percent for the duration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (2016-2019) in addition to annual raise in a deal whose implementation has been delayed partly due to Covid-19 disruptions.
Because of the standoff, the union had asked members to down their tools, a development that prompted the aviation authority to seek the court’s intervention.
KAA has had a long-running battle with unionisable Kawu members over pay increases.
