State to complete second phase CBC classes by end of this weeK

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has today commissioned newly constructed CBC phase two classrooms at Gathiru-ini and Kigumo Secondary Schools in Kiambu county.

According to Magoha, the government seeks to complete the second phase of 3,500 Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)classrooms by the end of the week.

He however said if the project will not be completed, it will then be pushed into the next government.

“I want to urge the contractors who are a bit slow that our end game should be around this week. But if you will not have completed, then it means we shall continue working into the next government to ensure that the work is done,” he said.

This is as the second phase of CBC classes is at 65 percent completion rate across the country.

The Central region is leading at 85 percent completion rate, with Western and Rift Valley regions lagging behind at 50 percent.

Phase one of the project saw 6, 500 classes constructed across the country.

The education ministry targets to complete the commissioning of 10,000 CBC classrooms under the Jubilee government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
