CS Magoha instructs closure of Schools on 2nd of August Ahead of the General Election

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha says schools will be closed on Tuesday 2nd of August ahead of the upcoming August 9th General Election.

In a statement on Monday , CS Magoha recalled the earlier directive to close schools on 6th August and instructed the basic learning institutions to close on Tuesday and reopen on 11th August 2022.

“We are breaking again on the 2nd August and we will not open again until the 11th,” said the CS.

At the same time, Magoha said if there are repeat elections during his tenure, consultations will be held to determine whether students will sit for their exams.

“We may have to sit down as stakeholders and see whether it will be fair to examine the children if they will have lost a considerable amount of time, I pray that that does not happen, these children have suffered enough.”

He spoke after inspecting the ongoing construction of CBC classrooms at the institution.

Learners across the country will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE),  Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), while those in grade 6 will sit for their national exams under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

KCPE will take place between November 28 and December 1, while KCSE will take place between December 1 and 23.

The CBC national exam will take place between November 28 and 30.
