Secretary General of the National Council of Churches of Kenya Chris Kinyanjui has called for collaboration in delivering a peaceful general election on the 9th of August.

Speaking during the National Elections Conference 2022 held at Ufungamano House, he noted that election matters are a collective responsibility of religious leaders and other stakeholders in the country.

He then assured that the church will play its role in contributing to the democratization of peace, unity and cohesion.

“Our search for peace and unity has taken us through a lot, but from 1992 we still believe that we can be united and hold different political opinions,” said Kinyanjui.

Also present, Bishop Alfred Rotich of the Catholic Justice and Peace Department called on all stakeholders to foster an enabling environment for peaceful elections and prevent election-related violence

He noted that political intolerance ignites or fan flames of violence.

“Our lives must not be disrupted by events. Let us pay special attention to the way this year’s general elections will be conducted,” said Rotich.
