Deputy CEO at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Abdi Mohamud has called on Kenyans to elect into office leaders with integrity.

Addressing EACC members and other stakeholders at Strathmore University, Mohamud noted that this will help deal with issues of bribery and lack of service delivery, among others.

This is as the commission notes that one of the key issues raised by Kenyans is maladministration.

“Most of the complaints we receive at the EACC are based on maladministration. The reason why these complaints are about service delivery is because when we have systems that are not efficient, effective and transparent, that becomes a ground for corruption,” said Mohamud.

Mohamud spoke during Africa Anti-corruption day celebrations, where he acknowledged the role played by other stakeholders such as the judiciary, security forces and the media, in addressing corruption.

Other EACC leaders also called for the observance of the celebrations themed: ‘Elect Leaders of Integrity to Enhance Transparency and Accountability’.

“We can prevent corruption and other economic crimes at the ballot. Let us elect leaders of integrity to enhance transparency and accountability,” said EACC Chairperson Eliud Wabukala.

“As the holders of sovereign power, citizens should elect honest and incorruptible leaders taking into account that they ultimately bear the consequences of poor governance,” added Eric Ngumbi, Head of Corporate Affairs, EACC.

Also present Dr. Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit of the Anglican Church of Kenya, called on Kenyans to vote for leaders who will inspire hope in the upcoming general election.

“When we make wrong decisions, the future of citizens is blocked. We clap for those who steal our future and encourage them to continue to do so and in doing so we lose both our country and the future. Let us be a country that is governed by a clear focus that the resources of this country are not just for us, but a debt we owe to generations to come. We must keep and preserve them.”
