Kenya Kwanza accuses President Kenyatta of secretly signing agreements with a private UAE company to run the ports

The Kenya Kwanza coalition is now accusing President Uhuru Kenyatta of secretly signing an agreement with an UAE private company to run the Mombasa, Lamu ,Naivasha and Kisumu port. Addressing journalists in Nairobi, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi said their coalition is in possession of documents of the deal signed by the National treasury CS Ukur Yatani. They have accused the Uhuru government of by-passing the public procurement process and parliament process, before signing the deal.

Mudavadi further challenged president Kenyatta to come clean on the deal, adding that ODM leader Raila Odinga was also aware of the secret handover of operations of the ports.

His FORD-Kenya principal Moses Wetangula also called for the resignation of treasury CS Yatani, and Attorney general Paul Kariuki, for overseeing the fleecing of Kenyan assets.

The Alliance claims the move epitomizes grand corruption saying President Uhuru Kenyatta has assented to a rip-off that will see a foreign privately registered entity Dubai Port World FZE take over these key national infrastructural assets.

According to Kenya Kwanza the ill-disguised Economic Cooperation Agreement supposedly signed on March 1st 2022, by the CS Treasury Mr. Ukur Yatani, Kenya will cede ownership and control of not only the three ports, but also supporting infrastructure at the ports and in the hinterland.

Kenya Kwanza says the sinister scheme contravenes the Public Private Partnership Act (PPPA) claiming a superficial foreign entity will take charge of the redevelopment of berths 11 to 14 and a special economic zone at the Mombasa Port, equipping and operating the container terminal at the Port of Lamu, development of a special economic zone next to the Port of Lamu, development and operating cold chains and logistic parks at both Kisumu and Naivasha.

The Alliance accuses the Government of violating the Public Procurement and Asset disposal Act, failure to involve Parliament on the same and lack of public participation.
