Cryotherapy To Be Adopted By KMTC To Treat Cervical Cancer

Acting Director General for Health- Dr. Patrick Amoth has officiated the launch of cyo-therapy equipment at the Kenya Medical Training college in Nairobi. 

Amoth says the move of introducing the syllabus in the medical curriculum will help achieve a  90% cancer free nation by 2030  from a current stand of 41%

Cryotherapy, sometimes known as cold therapy, is the local or general use of low temperatures in medical therapy. Cryotherapy may be used to treat a variety of tissue lesions. The most prominent use of the term refers to the surgical treatment, specifically known as cryosurgery or cryoablation. Cryosurgery is the application of extremely low temperatures to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue and is used most commonly to treat skin conditions. 

He further says cryotherapy will better the taskforce  as a mandate of the ministry of health to build capacity among its health workers.

According to the latest report on one of  the country’s top  killer diseases, cervical cancer claims the lives of nine women daily, leading to a total of 3,286 deaths annually.

The country will join other nations including the United states in treating cervical cancer and introduction  of cryotherapy into the medical curriculum.
