Ghana’s opposition party to rebury founding president

Ghana's founding President Kwame Nkrumah

Ghana’s opposition Convention People’s Party has announced plans to rebury the country’s founding President Kwame Nkrumah in November.

The plan arose amid claims by the independence-era ruling party says Mr. Nkrumah wasn’t given a fitting burial by the state following his death in April 1972. For this reason, they believe that his soul is still restless.

The CPP party said it will soon unveil a timetable of activities that will culminate into Mr. Nkrumah’s “actual funeral”.

It did not offer details whether it plans to exhume and rebury Mr. Nkrumah’s remains at another site. CPP party General Secretary Nana Yaa Jantuah read the burial proposal to the local media.

“Perhaps his wonder was, am I going to get a befitting burial when the Lord calls me? A befitting burial he did not get, restless soul which needs to rest is that of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.” She said.

“In this premise, where the Conventions People’s Party and like-minded people in the Diaspora and the African continent would organise a befitting funeral for Dr. Kwame Nkrumah,” Nana added.

Kwame Nkrumah is the founding president of Ghana and the steward of the Pan Africanism movement worldwide.
