Businessman and politician Polycarp Igathe, will be vying for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee party ticket.

According to Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Igathe had been cleared by the party ahead of its primaries.

“Igathe is in the Nairobi Governors race. He has paid his nomination fees and also done everything he is required to vie for the seat,” stated Kioni.

Igathe made his entry into politics in 2017, when he deputized former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, however resigned on 31st of January 2018.

Kioni further noted that several Nairobi Governor aspirants have been cleared including the current governor Ann Kananu, businesswoman Ann Kagure and businessman Richard Ngatia.

He however failed to disclose when the aspirants will conduct nominations or if the party will have a consensus on who to fly its flag in the race.

This is as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party which is under the Azimio la Umoja Coalition together with Jubilee and other parties,  has fronted Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi as their Nairobi candidate.

The Azimio leaders are yet to decide whether they will have a joint candidate in the Nairobi gubernatorial race.

Meanwhile, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja is also seeking the gubernatorial seat under Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
