CJ Martha Koome calls for fair election to avoid flurry of petitions.

The Judiciary has asked the  Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC to conduct a free and fair election, in the forthcoming general election, in order to avoid a flurry of election petitions.

Chief Justice Martha Koome says  the Judiciary is at the moment under-funded and is not able to avail judges to hear many  elections disputes.

Koome further said, the Judiciary is operating on a budget deficit, and therefore cannot address the challenges of the electoral disagreement.

She noted that budgetary allocation was short of around KSh. 26 billion for the financial year 201-2022.

The IEBC has in the past promised to conduct a fair election but has been quick to add that the success of the polls will also depend on a multisector players in government and the NGO’s .

IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati says ministry of Interior will be key in providing security in the whole process together with the Ethics and anti corruption commission working together with the office of the public prosecution ODPP.

The election date is set for 9th August 2022 with official campaign period set to begin in the month of May for ninety days .
