Leaders react to recent attack on female motorist by boda-boda riders

President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered a crackdown on all rogue bodaboda operators in the country starting in Nairobi. 

Speaking during the marking of the international women’s day at the Kenya school of government, President Uhuru condemned the incident where a female motorist was harassed adding that such incidents will not be condoned.  

The president added that his order should not be used in political campaigns as being against small businesses ahead of the August polls. 

The head of state however heaped praise on the bodaboda operators who have been conducting themselves in an organized manner adding that they have played a big part in the economy of the country. 

The president said the institution will be critical in ensuring maintenance and protection of the strides made in gender equality and providing leadership in identifying and addressing emerging challenges as they arise. 

The head of state  also said the Institute will help the Kenyan girls recover the education loss, which arose during the Covid 19 pandemic, support women regain livelihoods, and put them at the center of  sustainable post covid-19 agenda.

On her part  First lady Margaret Kenyatta said  this year’s International Women’s day theme resonates, in so many ways with the women’s experiences.

The first lady added that  the theme amplifies the barriers that women face and the importance of inclusivity to achieve development and social change. 

A number of leaders have reacted to the cruel acts of violence witnessed against the female motorist .

Chief Justice Martha Koome called for apprehension of the perpetrators and Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna asked the leadership of the Boda-boda safety Association of Kenya to take responsibility and aid in identifying the culprits.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has since condemned the incident terming it as disgusting.

According to Nairobi Traffic Commandant Joshua Omukata, the victim sustained fractures on the leg and is undergoing treatment at Kiambu Level 4 Hospital.

Boda boda riders have been warned that stern action would be taken against them for such barbaric acts.
