Ferdinand Omanyala crowned SOYA sportsperson of the year

100 metres sensation Ferdinand Omanyala, has been crowned the 2021 SOYA Sportsman of the Year.

Omanyala was feted during the award ceremony  held at the Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega on Tuesday night.

Omanyala beat a gallant field of Eliud Kipchoge ,Emmanuel Korir , Alvin ‘Bufa’ Otieno and rally driver  Carl Tundo . Omanyala came to the lime light when he competed in the Olympics 100 metres and also broke the african record in the same distance

Olympic 1500m champion Faith Chepng’etich Kipyegon overcame a tough challenge from Peres Jepchirchir and Brigid Kosgei to clinch the women’s title.

Kenya 7s rugby team, Shujaa, edged Kenya Cup holders KCB Rugby and FKF Premier League Champions Tusker to Team of the Year title.

Shujaa won Safari 7s for the first time since 2016 after defeating Germany 12-5.

Tokyo 2020 Paralympics bronze medallist Nancy Chelangat won the Sportswoman Living with a Disability award while Deaflympian Simon Kibai claimed the men’s award.

Immediate former Harambee Starlets head coach Charles Okere bet the challnege KCB’s head coach Curtis Olago to win the Coach of the Year award.
