Suspected Al-shabaab militants further unrest in Lamu

Suspected Al-Shabaab militants, have allegedly abducted 2 people in Lamu county.

According to the police, the incident occurred in kibokoni-Hindi area. Lamu county is now counting the deaths of at least 7 people this week.

This follows the arrests of 9 suspects who are believed to be linked with the attacks in the county.

The national police spokesperson Bruno Shioso, said the suspects are being grilled over the attack which is linked to land disputes.

Moreover, he added that they are also following leads in a bid to establish whether the attacks have any connections with the outlawed Al-shabaab militia.

Attacks in Lamu have been active since Monday, January 3, 2022, where several people died in the Majembeni area. Additionally, houses were also torched, leaving people injured.

Tuesday January 4, 2022, one person died following an attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Bobo-Hindi area.

According to police reports, the suspected militants torched John Moji, beyond recognition and later razed his house down.

Confirming the incident, National Police Service Commission chairman Eliud Kinuthia said Moji died with his hands tied up behind his back, a scene similar to 6 other people who were killed on Monday morning.
