Ann Kananu Mwenda is the new Nairobi Governor

Ann Kananu has been sworn in as the third Nairobi Governor. Speaking after her swearing in, Governor Kananu said she will work to lift the capital to the next level of development .

Kananu who took oath of office before the judge of the high court and other supporters also unveiled a five points agenda in the ten months that she will be in charge of Nairobi.

She pledged to work together with the Nairobi metropolitan service that was given key mandate in the capital city just before the ousting of Mike Sonko.

Kananu was also elated to be the third sitting woman governor after Kirinyaga’s Ann Waiguru and Kitui’s Charity Ngilu.

The new governor underscored the importance of curbing gender violence in the City and acting firmly against those found guilty of the vice.

Kananu is now fully in charge of the capital after serving in an acting capacity since the ousting of former governor Mike Sonko.

She will later be expected to nominate a deputy governor who will later be vetted  and approved by the county assembly .
