IEBC Registers Over 800,000 New Voters

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has registered 800,462 new voters.

In a statement, IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati says the number is out of the commission’s projected target of 4.5 Million.

IEBC has serviced 125,266 transfer requests from the existing voters.

The commission is calling on Kenyans who are eligible for registration as voters to register in the ongoing registration drive that entered its fourth and final week on Monday. 

The Commission makes a final call to all Kenyans that are eligible for registration as voters to take advantage of the remaining one week and register. Our staff are in every ward in the country ready to enrol you so that you may exercise your democratic right” said Chebukati.

In  regards to the recently concluded by-elections held in the country IEBC says it concluded the Nguu/Masumba County Ward by-election and gazetted the winner.

Independent candidate Timothy Sireri Maneno clinched the seat.

Chebukati also says they are working with the ministry of Interior and the police to ensure there is security before, during and after the 2022 polls. 

He spoke during a meeting with Chief Justice Martha Koome and other government stakeholders to discuss preparation measures ahead of the 2022  general election.
