French President Emmanuel Macron says he hopes the diplomatic tension with Algeria will ease soon.
Speaking today, he called for talks with Algeria noting that this will allow both countries to make progress.
This comes after Algeria recalled its ambassador from Paris, accusing France of unacceptable interference in its affairs.
On Saturday, Algeria recalled its ambassador to Paris, citing comments attributed to Macron, who was quoted in the Le Monde newspaper as saying Algeria’s rulers had rewritten the history of its colonisation based on “a hatred of France”.
Algeria said it was responding to comments attributed to President Emmanuel Macron by French newspaper Le Monde.
Macron was quoted as saying Algeria was ruled by a political-military system with an official history that was based not on truth, but on hatred of France.
