Namibia President, wife text positive for Covid-19

Namibia’s President Hage Geingob has tested positive for Covid-19.

First Lady Monica Geingos also tested positive for the virus and the two are currently in isolation.

“The Presidency would like to inform the nation that President Hage G. Geingob and the First Lay Madame Monica tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday evening, May 26, 2021”, the country’s presidency announced in a statement.

The Namibian presidency made the announcement on twitter.

President Geingob, 79, is the country’s third president and is serving his second and last term in office.

According to the World Health Organization, Namibia has recorded 53,432 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 779 fatalities.

The country has administered 67,984 vaccine doses.
