India records lowest Covid-19 cases since its upsurge

India has posted its lowest daily rise in infections since April 14.

Over the last 24 hours, India has recorded 196,427 new coronavirus cases, with deaths rising by 3,511.

According to health ministry data the country’s overall caseload now stands at 26.95 million, while total fatalities are at 307,231.

India’s healthcare system has been overwhelmed by a deadly second wave in recent weeks.

Hospitals struggling to cope with the influx of patients and with critical drugs and oxygen running out.

It took less than a month to record its last 100,000 deaths.

Over the past days, concerns over rising number of fungus infections linked to Covid treatment have added to the overall crisis.

The ministry of health said oxygen, medicine and hospital beds continue to be in short supply.

consequently, people are making pleas on social media to find some for their loved ones.

India’s central government has faced mounting criticism of its handling of the pandemic, and for allowing election rallies and religious festivals to go ahead.

The United States has told its citizens to leave India as soon as possible as the country battles a devastating coronavirus wave.

It was the highest advisory of its kind issued by the Department of State.
