Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has downplayed the installation of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi as the Spokesperson of Mount Kenya region.
Munya says Muturi’s coronation that took place on Saturday in Muranga county, may not amount to much, given that its roles are unclear.
He also claimed the coronation was just a political circus noting that President Uhuru Kenyatta is still the undisputed spokesperson and leader of the Agikuyu.
“What exactly is the role of the spokesperson. And where is his office?” questioned Munya.
He said, when the time comes for the president to exit, he will guide the community on who will be their next leader.
Munya’s disapproval comes amid support for Muturi’s installation by some governors from the region, including Kiraitu Murungi of Meru, Martin Wambora of Embu, and Muthomi Njuki of Tharaka Nithi.
The governors met with Muturi on Friday ahead of his coronation, to address a number of issues that the speaker’s new office will have to handle.
They said the Mount Kenya region must be at the political high table.
