President Uhuru Kenyatta, today launched operations at the Lamu Port, which is the second international seaport in Kenya.
The Port will become the biggest deep-sea port in East Africa with 32 berths.
These berths are deeper and longer than Mombasa Port, making it suitable for bigger ships that cannot dock at Mombasa.
Lamu Port is 17.5metres deep while Mombasa Port is 15metres.
The port has already received its first Commercial Ship by the name MV CAP CAPMEL from Dar es Salaam Tanzania and is expecting its second second Ship by the name MV SEAGO.
Earlier, the president officially opened the 114km Garsen-Witu-Lamu road in Tana River County and also inspected other ongoing government projects in Lamu.
