The ministry of health says it is set to launch polio vaccination campaign in Garissa county tomorrow. Speaking today in a stakeholders meeting Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the campaign will target all children below the age of five years.
In a statement CS Kagwe said Polio remains one of the serious illnesses which not only causes paralysis and disability but can also kill.
He added that in Garissa County in 2013, 14 people were paralyzed by polio and 2 died following complications arising from the disease.
This campaign is targeting over 3.4 million children in thirteen counties in a campaign that will run for one week.
The health ministry has lauded efforts from National and County Governments, , local NGOs and Faith based organizations, in the success of previous campaigns.
The targeted counties include Mandera, Isiolo, Wajir, Garissa, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kitui, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nairobi.
