Heavy rains displace hundreds across the country

Hundreds of families have been displaced in Kolwa East of Kisumu County, following floods as long rains continue in some parts of the country .

Most homes have been flooded since Monday, forcing families to relocate to higher ground.

Approximately 897 households have been affected, with Kolwa East MCA Steve Owiti saying learning has been disrupted in most  schools.

Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna has said that plans are underway to help persons affected by the rains in different parts of the country.

The Kenya Meteorological Department had over the weekend warned of heavy rains in the Nairobi region, Central Kenya and parts of the Eastern Region .

Director of Meteorological Services Stella Aura, in a statement, called for measures to be put in place to avoid loss of lives and property during the rains.

She also warned Kenyans, especially motorists and pedestrians, to be on the lookout and be cautious while passing through moving water.
