WHO to approve Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines by end of the week

An endorsement from WHO may finally boost confidence in the Chinese Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines.

The UN agency, says it expects to finalize decisions on the emergency use approval for both of the submitted vaccines at the end of this week.

Meanwhile, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has sent back 1,000 donated doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, following criticism from the Philippines. The backlash, erupted soon after Duterte took his first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine live online.

The President however, intended to encourage reluctant Filipinos to follow his lead and protect themselves against Covid-19. Nevertheless, Duterte has apologized to the public for receiving the unapproved vaccine.

“Just give us Sinovac, which is in use by everyone,” He is quoted as saying to the Chinese ambassador. The aforementioned vaccine, has been widely in use in the Philippines since February.

The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in early March, stated decisions on the two drugs for emergency use would delay as stringent regulatory authorities such as WHO, were yet to approve of it.
