Senate set to meet today to ratify the 2021 revenue bill

The senate is set to convene today in a special sitting called by Speaker Kenneth Lusaka to consider the division of the revenue bill 2021, that was presented to the house last week from the National Assembly.

This is a crucial stage in the budget making process that provides for the equitable division of revenue raised nationally, among the national and county levels of government as required by the constitution.

The bill was stalled at the national assembly after members differed the vote, insisting that the treasury must first release the national government constituency development fund (CDF), in full.

The bill however is now at the senate stage and should it become law, counties will get the highest disbursement from the national government  since the start of devolution seven years ago, at Ksh 370 billion.
