Atwoli Re-elected as COTU Secretary General for the 5th Term

Francis Atwoli has been re-elected unopposed for a 5th term as Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General.

In an exercise held by delegates at Tom Mboya Labour college, Kisumu, trade union representatives re-elected the veteran trade unionist who continues to occupy the seat since the year 2001.

Following a post on his twitter handle Atwoli thanked Kenyans for giving him a new mandate.

I want to THANK ALL KENYAN WORKERS for RE-ELECTING me UNOPPOSED, through their registered Trade Union Representatives, as the Secretary General of COTU. I promise to service you with all my mighty and strength and not betray the trust you have bestowed in me,” said Francis Atwoli.

Atwoli had previously served as the General Secretary of the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union and also in a Senior position at the Union of Posts and Telecommunication Employees.

However Atwoli’s re-elction has been marred with accusations of muzzling other aspirants, by the Kenya National Union of Nurses secretary general Seth Panyako who had shown interest in the union’s seat.

Panyako wanted the COTU elections canceled and moved held after May 26 when Atwoli’s current term come to an ends.
