Abdulkadir Mohamed Declared the new Garissa Senator

Abdulkadir Mohamed has been declared Garissa County Senator replacing the late Yusuf Haji.

This is after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati announced that there is no contest for the seat, as only one candidate was in the race.

Mohammed becomes the second Senator of Garissa County.

In the exercise of powers conferred by Articles 88(4) and 98(1) of the constitution of Kenya, the IEBC makes a declaration of no contest and declares the person listed DULY ELECTED as Garissa County Senator,” Chebukati stated in a gazette notice.

Mohamed, who is the son of the late Senator Yusuf Haji, was the Jubilee Party candidate for the seat.

Community leaders, elders and professionals from Garissa County had endorsed Mohamed for the position as a show of honour and respect to his late father.

The late Haji died on February 15th after jetting in from Turkey where he had been hospitalized since December last year.

Until his death, the late legislator served as chairman of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce.
