Olekina accuses the Executive of muzzling parliament

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina  has once again claimed that the executive arm of government has taken crippled parliament’s role in checking the debt crisis in the country.

Ledama says President Uhuru Kenyatta has succeeded in controlling both houses by ensuring the leadership of the committees are led by government friendly Members of Parliament who cannot question the rising debt in the country.

He added that the committees no longer check the executive’s moves, for fear of being thrown out of the leadership in the house.

The comments by the Narok Senator come even as Kenyans continue to protest the recent approval of a 257 billion shilling  loan by International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Ledama was late last year denied the opportunity to chair the senate accounts committee, a move he claimed was due to his criticism of the current leadership in spending.

Currently the public accounts committee is chaired by Migori Senator Ochilo Ayacko who took over from Kisii’s Sam Ongeri.
