Uasin Gishu residents turn up in large numbers for COVID-19 vaccination

Residents in uasin gishu have turned up in large numbers at vaccination centres to receive their vaccination jabs in bid to reduce the rising infection cases in the county.

Speaking in Uasin gishu, Health Minister Dr. Evelyn Rotich urged the citizens to visit health centres upon testing positive adding that ignorance to the infections is the major cause of severe cases.

She noted that the 15,000 doses that were rolled out by the government is not enough to cater for the healthcare workers saying the target group number is over 22,000 and 58 year olds and above are more than 60,000 people.

She said, “We are happy that elderly people in the society have responded to the vaccination program. We are looking forward to creating a herd immunity, in the fight against the pandemic.”

Rotich said that the resident should be responsible in adhering to the covid-19 measures advised by the president and the ministry of health in bid to reduce the infection rates and to avoid ICU admittance throughout the county hospitals.

Citing the reviewed vaccination policy, the chair of the Covid-19 Vaccine Development Taskforce, Dr. Willis Akhwale, said that the age bracket of 58 and above has been considered following the growing numbers of fatalities and surge in hospitalization in the third wave of the pandemic.

He said, “This group of persons will now be the priority target group under the ongoing Phase One vaccination exercise.”
