Kericho Deputy Governor Susan Kikwai to be buried today

The late Kericho Deputy Governor Susan Kikwai is set to be buried today in Tugunon village in Kipkelion East, Kericho County.

According to Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, Kikwai succumbed to Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at Siloam Hospital.

Chepkowny mourned Kikwai as a humble and diligent servant of the people. She is remembered for putting together an effective forum to address business promotion of Kenya’s promising industries.

He also urged Kericho residents to be calm as they enter a mourning period, and also observe the set Covid guidelines.

According to the program released yesterday evening, the body will be transported from the mortuary to her rural home for the final burial rites today.

On Monday, Kericho County Assembly Speaker Dominic Rono led the Members of the County Assembly in special prayers and tributes to the leader.

Citing the third wave, Speaker Dominic Rono said, “We have come here to pray for the family and the county since not all of us will make it to the burial due to Covid-19 containment measures set by the Ministry of Health.”

He added, “There is a lot of laxity among the people when it comes to containment measures despite the high number of infections and deaths being reported. It is important that we do not lower our guard.”

They termed her as a dedicated and true servant to the people of Kericho.

Before her death, she was serving her second term as the deputy governor after being elected in the 2017 elections. She also served, among others, in the 2030 Delivery Board, Export Promotion Council, and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa
