Health workers decry lack of inclusivity in the COVID-19 vaccination drive

Health workers representative groups have expressed full support for the Covid-19 vaccine rollout by the Government.

Appearing before the Senate Committee on Health, they commended the move by the government. They however decried lack of inclusivity and poor communication by the Health Ministry.

Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Nurses, Seth Panyako said nurses have not been sensitized on vaccines.

We are the vaccinators; patients will ask pertinent questions as we carry out the vaccination exercises,” Seth Panyako said.

He says this is a challenge to them as they are unable to answer some questions relating to the vaccine.

Questions on whether to continue to wear facemasks and what are the side effects of the vaccines have not been answered.

Speaking at the same time, the Secretary General of Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union Chibanzi Mwachonda said the roll out was not done in consultation with the health care workers.

He also decried lack of adequate information about the vaccine.
