Ex treasury boss to forfeit multi-million shilling assets

The first seizure of property linked to the Anglo Leasing scam, has seen the former chief accountant of the Treasury, forfeit multi-million shilling assets.

Patrick Ochieno Abachi is to surrender; nine parcels of land in Mavoko and Kitengela, a four-bedroom house in Mavoko, four apartments in Parkview Estate in Nairobi’s South C area, a house in Mugoya Estate, property in Mombasa’s Nyali area and five cars.

He was expected to further surrender an undisclosed amount of money, held in three bank accounts and Sh1.99 million in hard cash.

All which was seized from his house on 28 November, 2007.

The high court faulted Abachi for failing to explain the source of the assets. Judge Mumbi Ngugi then ordered that they be surrendered to the State on counts of unexplained assets.
