Kenya to receive first batch of Covid-19 vaccine this week

March, 03, 2021 Kenya will receive its first batch of Covid-19 vaccine early Wednesday March 3rd 2021.

The 1.02 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses are set to arrive from Serum Institute of India. Receiving the shipment will be a big boost to contain the spread of the pandemic.

With this development, Kenya will join more than 10 other countries that have so far received their consignment of the jabs through the Covax facility.

As earlier stated by the ministry of health, healthcare workers, frontline workers and vulnerable population groups will be given priority.

“Cabinet ratified the distribution framework for the vaccines; with first priority being given to Health Care Workers, Frontline Workers including Security Personnel and Teachers, vulnerable persons and groups and Hospitality Sector Workers,” the presidency said in a press release.

Other African countries that have so far received the vaccines are South AFrica, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Ethiopia among others.
