At least 10 people killed in an attack in Nigeria

24th, Feb 2021 – Borno State Governor in Nigeria, has visited two hospitals where Tuesday attack survivors are admitted.
Governor Babagana Zulum, says Boko Haram militants are suspected of the attack that took place in the Nigerian north-eastern city of Maiduguri in Borno state.

Zulum said, “This is a new form of attack, totally different from the usual suicide bombing. It is worrisome and there is an urgent need to strategize to forestall further occurrence.”

Zulum says, the attackers fired rocket-propelled grenades into densely populated areas in the city, including a children’s playground.
He says the grenades were launched from the outskirts of the city.

According to reports, the attack started at aroung 5:45 PM. At first there was defening sounds of explosions followed by cracking of shootings by rifles which could be heard across the city.

Residents of Maiduguri, the provincial capital of Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state say that the started as people were finishing with work and many preparing for evening prayers. The attack, according to the residents, lasted for hours.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but Boko Haram is the prime suspect. The Islamic extremist rebels have been waging an insurgency in northeastern Nigeria for more than 10 years
