EPL fans may return in stadia in final round of matches in May

Feb 23rd 2021 British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says Fans will be back at elite sports events from May 17 with 10,000 supporters allowed at the biggest venues – like Wembley and large premier league football grounds.

The return of fans  will also be just a week away from the final round of the English premier league matches.

Other sporting event in the UK that will get the boost include the European Championships, Wimbledon and the Rugby League World Cup.

The  relaxation of the rules may however come too late for the FA cup final .The FA Cup final is on May 15 – two days before 10,000 fans could be allowed into outdoor seated venues.

The Carabao Cup final between Manchester City and Tottenham is set for 25th April and will also be without fans if no exemption is given.

The Government will from April run a series of pilots using enhanced testing approaches and other measures to hold events with larger crowd sizes and reduced social distancing.

Should this work, the Government have announced it hopes to be able to lift restrictions on these larger events and sectors as part of Step 4.
